Paywall

Paywall = a feature locked behind paid subscription.
Worth distinguishing:
- Onboarding paywall: app shows paid tier first, free tier after a “skip” link. Standard.
- Soft paywall: paid features visible in UI, marked with a lock icon. Tolerable.
- Hard paywall: free tier is unusable; basic features (macros, full database) are paid-only. MyFitnessPal Premium uses this pattern.
- Time-bombed: free for N days, then paid-only. MacroFactor uses this.
PlateLens’s paywall is soft and conservative. Free tier covers logging, macros, photo, barcode, full database. Paid (Coach) covers analytic features only.
